Who we are

In the summer of 2000 Rock-N-Jock Charities founding member John Cafferty, along with Steve Smith and their bands, were asked to perform at the Station Night Club located in West Warwick, Rhode Island. The performances by both entertainers would follow a charity golf tournament held to raise funds for The Make a Wish Foundation. Both entertainers had performed on the national stage and felt that their notoriety could help grow this event into something that would benefit local individuals and families. That same year (2000) friends Michel Gilbert (CEO) and William “Pal” Geary Jr. (Vice Chair) would join Rock-N-Jock Charities as board members. Each of these gentlemen would bring an aspect of strength to fund raising, such as celebrity recruitment, and golf organization.Over the next twenty two years the board would grow to ten plus members, each bringing their own strength in support of RNJ’s efforts. In that same year the 9/11 tragedy struck. Rock-N-Jock Charities learned that a local child had lost a parent in this horrific event and wanted to once again stepped up in support of this child. The event was titled FREEDOM ROCKS. JOHN CAFFERTYY and the BEAVER BROWN BAND along with STEVE SMITH and the NAKEDS would perform at a concert at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet. RNJ Charities learned that despite their fund raising efforts not one penny went in support of the child who was the intended recipient. At that point Rock-N-Jock Charities decided to file the paperwork necessary to become a fund-raising entity with the State of Rhode Island. RNJ Charities now was a recognized 501 C, nonprofit organization. In 2003 Rhode Island was rocked by another tragedy. The Station Night Club, home of the very first concert for Rock-N-Jock Charities, suffered a horrific fire where one hundred people lost their lives, and inside countless others were injured. JOHN CAFFERTY and the BEAVER BROWN BAND and STEVE SMITH and the NAKEDS once again hosted a benefit concert at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet where all funds raised would support the victims of this tragic event. In that same year Rock-N-Jock Charities hosted the inaugural, two-day event that is still going strong today. The Crowne Plaza was home to a concert titled NIGHT OF ENTERTAINMENT which was open to the public with the golfers and their invited guests at Potowomut Golf Course. Both events are still going strong as of 2021. Over the course of Rock-N-Jock Charities fund raising efforts, approximately $500,000 has been raised for many local charities that support children and families facing life threatening illnesses. In the past, Rock-N-Jock Charities only raised money from the NIGHT OF ENTERTAINMENT and our annual CELEBRITY GOLF TOURNAMENT. We are happy to announce that our web-site is set up to take donations through the year. Rock-N-Jock Charities is grateful for all the support it receives from the community such as sponsorships, T-signs, golf memberships, raffle donations, and silent auction items.

Donations are always welcome.
